What is web application development?

A web application is software that runs in the browser: a customer portal, a booking system, a dashboard, a quoting tool. It works on phones and laptops without an app store, updates for everyone at once, and can be built to be fast and accessible. We build them to WCAG 2.2 AA and test on real mobile connections.

01.04.1

Who is it for?

  • Businesses replacing a dated portal or a set of forms and emails
  • Teams that need one tool for office and field staff
  • Products that need to reach customers without an app download

01.04.2

From a small business to a large organisation

The same team takes on a single tool for a small business and long-running work for large companies and the public sector. Here is what each end looks like.

For a small business

A customer portal or booking system that works on any phone, with no app store involved.

For large companies and the public sector

Large web applications for staff and the public, built to WCAG 2.2 AA, tested under load and integrated with existing systems.

  • Public-facing digital services
  • Staff portals and dashboards
  • Accessibility remediation
  • Replacing ageing intranet systems

  3. Build

Design system first, then features in short cycles.

  4. Launch

Accessibility and performance checks before go-live.

Questions

Web app or mobile app?

Start with a web app unless you need something only a native app can do well, such as heavy offline use, background location, Bluetooth hardware or a strong reason to be in the app stores. A well-built web app can be installed to the home screen.

Do you design as well as build?

Yes. We design the interface and the flows, and we can work inside your existing brand guidelines.

What about accessibility?

We build to WCAG 2.2 AA as standard: keyboard use, screen reader labels, colour contrast, focus states and reduced motion.
